Saturday9There's No Gettin' Over Me
(There's) No Gettin' Over Me (1981)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune?
I loved Ronnie Milsap. We saw him and Barbara Mandrell in 1983. It was so impressive to watch him as he moved across the stage which had a big drop-off, but he always made it to where he was supposed to be. Both he and Barbara Mandrell were amazing entertainers. And hey, I was country when country wasn't cool!!! ;-)
1) Ronnie Milsap sings about how worrisome it can be when you realize you forgot to pay a bill. It's happened to all of us, hasn't it? Tell about about a time you accidentally missed a payment.
It happened to me just last week! I was shocked to remember that when I purchased a pair of jeans back in February at Kohl's, the cashier finally convinced me to open an account in order to receive extra discounts. Always, always I have said no because we only use one credit card which is always, always paid off each month, but I thought okay this time, what the heck. I can cancel it. Well, it totally slipped my mind until I received a notice in the mail stating that not only were the jeans on the bill, but late charges as well! In a panic, I called Kohl's to straighten out the mess and the customer service canceled all the extra charges and I canceled the account. Whew!!! Never ever again! We have always used one credit card period and I broke that rule.
2) He also references a dream that keeps him awake. Do you have any recurring dreams?
I did as a child. Nightmares. And Ronnie Milsap had another popular song about dreams: I'm Having Day Dreams About Night Things in the Middle of the Afternoon!
3) He sings about the face you see in the crowd. Tell us about someone you see regularly, but don't really know.
The gentleman who lives down the street is most always outside working when I walk my dog. He's friendly and I know his first name, but don't really know him.
4) He mentions the book that you just can't put down. What's the last book that you finished? I'm always reading several books, but the last one I actually finished was Barbara Bush - A Memoir. It was a very enjoyable book.
5) Ronnie Milsap is a big fan of new technology, and believes the advancements make both his professional and personal lives easier. What about you? Do you embrace new technology?
It takes me a bit of time to adjust. I did NOT want to learn the computer. I did NOT think cell phones were necessary. Now I can't imagine being without those things. I still like books, but I like the iPad and Kindle for traveling. There are so many great conveniences that, of course, bring negatives along with them.
Or do you long for the good old days, when we weren't so connected to personal devices?
It is tiresome to see, no matter where you are, heads bowed over devices. At home, restaurants, in cars. Everywhere.
Speaking of the good old days, one of my favorite Ronnie Milsap songs was Lost in the Fifties. Loved dancing to that song. Ahhhhh, the Fifties! A memorable decade!

6) As a child, Ronnie used to surreptitiously listen to late night radio, especially gospel broadcasts. When you were a kid, what rule did you break again and again?
Only rule I might have broken consistently would have been reading at night under the covers. I remember when I was in first and second grades disobeying the rule of coming straight home from school and my mother having to come looking for me. She had to walk as we had no second car. We had no phone, so she couldn't make calls. Poor Mom.
7) Country star Blake Shelton says Ronnie Milsap was a big influence on his music. Do you watch Blake on The Voice? No.
8) In May, Ronnie appeared at the Choctaw Casino in Grant, OK. Do you enjoy games of chance? Not a risk taker.
9) Random question -- When did you last "do it yourself" and repair something around the house or yard?
I guess pulling weeds doesn't count? I can't think of anything I've repaired and I'm not really a DIY person, but when a screw needs to be tightened, or something like that, I can handle it! These days I am learning more and more about that. Lol!

I enjoyed your answers, smiles. Would it be surprising to learn I/we have no credit cards? None, zip, zilch. I know, sigh, how can a person survive without them? We do, smiles.
I had fun reading your answers and loved the tie-ins to other Ronnie Milsap songs. I've always liked Ronnie. So many great songs, but my favorite has always been Pure Love. When I was a kid I thought it was so cool that he sang about Captain Krunch. LOL
I had a 45 record of one of Ronnie Milsap's songs. Trying to remember what it was called...googling...it was Smokey Mountain Rain and actually it was my older sister's, but I listened to it. 45 record?! Yes, I am 1000 years old.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the song selection! Every week we feature a different decade and genre, so that hopefully everyone will eventually come upon a song that really speaks to them.
I only really know Ronnie Milsap from a bar we used to go to in the 1980s. Remember "Smoky Mountain Rain?" It was on the jukebox all the time.
I had forgotten all about Barbara Mandrell. I used to love her back in the day.
I love "real" books, but my fading eyesight has made Kindle books preferable because I can adjust the size of type for myself.
I read that Barbara Bush book when it first came out and then I downloaded it on Audible when she passed away
I really enjoyed reading all your answers. I'm another big reader.
50's cars were the best ones. Totally agree. And, reading at night, under the covers I am still sort of doing. I turn the kindle away from my hubby so he can sleep and so I can read as long as I want.
Who grew up in the 50's and 60's doesn't still love to hear "Lost in the 50's Tonight?" I think I will ask Alexa to play Ronnie Milsap music tomorrow. Now the CC question. We have the same rule at our house and it's a good one. So glad you got the extra charges removed.
Ronnie Milsap was always a favorite of mine. You brought back many memories. Enjoyed your Saturday 9 very much. Have a day of blessings Nonnie.
Ha - you really like Ronnie Millsap. I enjoyed reading your answers. I am with you on the credit cards - we try to do that too - but we have more than one - but we do pay them off.

An interesting discussion is value comment. I think that it is best to write extra on this subject, it won't be a taboo subject but usually individuals are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers play casino
