On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Hot Fun in the Summertime Hodgepodge

It's Hodgepodge Wednesday and yay! the questions aren't too weighty this week. Whew!
Join in the fun with Joyce right here.

1. July 15th is National Give Something Away Day. What can you give away? Will you?

I have been trying to give away our bike trailer like this for the past couple of years. Maybe I will actually do so tomorrow.

Interesting update on the bike trailer. As my DH left the breakfast table just now, he said he was taking the bike trailer to the local donations place. Great minds think alike! He had no idea my answer to this question, nor did he know today is give away day! How fantastic is that?

2. Do you have a mantra? Please share with the class if you feel comfortable doing so.

Not in the purest sense of the word. But I find myself constantly reassuring myself with, "I will trust and not be afraid."

3. Who does the grocery shopping in your house? How many times a week do you shop? Do you make a list or pray for inspiration in the produce aisle?

I do the grocery shopping, although DH offers to go with me. He will drive me there, drop me off at the front door, pick me up and help with loading and unloading. It's really not good for him to help shop as we do not need everything he thinks we do. I do keep a running list, and still probably make three to four trips a week to the grocery store, depending on what is going on or what is needed. Example, if grand kids are coming over, I need to be sure I have fresh fruit on hand, buttermilk for pancakes, snacks and bacon. I try to stock up and replace items as they are used. Then we eat out most of the time! :-)

4. Is there a TV show you're embarrassed to say you watch? You're going to tell us what it is, right?

I suppose I am a little embarrassed that I don't mind watching reruns of Dick van Dyke or Little House on the Prairie or the Walton's when I'm a little bored. Feels like I'm wasting time, though.

5. A recent article listed fifteen words we should eliminate from our (written) vocabulary in order to sound smarter-

that, went, honestly, absolutely, very, really, amazing, always, never, literally, just, maybe, stuff, things, and irregardless

Of the fifteen, which word is your most overused?

Amazing. And seriously, I find it amazing that seriously wasn't on the list.

6. So apparently dying your hair gray (in your youth!) is a thing right now. It's called 'The Granny Hair' trend. Your thoughts?

I remember when I was in junior high (1962) the fad was to buy spray cans of color to streak your hair with gray or silver. Those of us who were without funds (or permission from parents) to do that would pat talcum powder on our hair. Seriously.

I don't understand many of the trends regarding hair right now with the different, bright and brassy colors. They really don't seem to enhance the beauty of the people who do that. Enough said.

7. A while back Buzz Feed asked members to share the most beautiful sentence they've read in a piece of literature. A hard thing to narrow down, at least for me, but let's try. What's one of the most beautiful sentences you've ever read in a piece of literature?

This is truly a hard thing to narrow down to one sentence and I cannot.

"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame.

Many waters cannot quench love, nor can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned."

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 NLT

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Lately I am experiencing problems with my vision so a trip to the eye doctor was in order this afternoon. Scar tissue growing over an implant in one eye and new cataract on the other eye. Yikes. Thankfully, the problems can be resolved and for now, eyeglasses will be my go-to when driving (my driving is getting a little scary). It has been many, many years since I have worn glasses. Boo-hoo, but whatever it takes!

I remember my very first pair of glasses in fourth grade. They were blue and were a bit of a novelty at first. I soon tired of wearing them and only wore them when I absolutely had to! One day I put them in my brown paper lunch bag, forgot about them, and accidentally threw the sack in the trash. My poor Mom and Great-Grandma actually went to the city dump to try to find them. How sad for my Mom to have to do that. As a 9 year old, I didn't realize how dear the price of new glasses were for my hard-working parents.

Tucker would LOVE to ride in that bike trailer! That's just what I need for him! :) Hiding your glasses reminds me of an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Remember when Mary hid her glasses? :)

I've had a couple of things recently that have made me so aware of my health, and how much we take it for granted until something doesn't work as it should. I love the bike trailer story!!

Our sight is a great gift and often we don't realize it until there is a problem. So far my vision is fine but I do have light sensitivity and get floaters when I'm getting a migraine and that alters my vision. When that happens I pray for the headache to come so my vision goes back to normal. I am glad to hear your problem can be resolved.
I like Little House and The Waltons too. At least those shows are good, wholesome family programs :)

Do I remember the powder hair days, What were we thinking - oh, we weren't. Great choice on #7. Anything from the Bible is an awesome choice I say.

Oh...Little House...Maybe I can find it on Hulu! I just got back from the eye doctor last week. New glasses. They're talking bifocals soon...And I need to wear sunglasses all the time outside as my "retinal fluid" lacks pigmentation. And dry eyes. :sigh: I'm told I'm "that age" now. Anyway...LOL

I never get enough of Little House!
My vision has started taking a nosedive since turning 40 - I'm constantly in readers now.
That bike thingie... my step daughter has had more accidents toting around her boys in those things. They scare me.

I love the passage from Song of Solomon. Have you heard Misty Edwards sing these words? The title of the song is "You Won't Relent" by Misty Edwards on You Tube. She is a worship leader at IHOPKC (International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO)

I don't understand the bright colors for hair either and I really don't understand the grey! I hope you get your eye problems fixed really quickly.

#3 We go out too often, too! Love your quote! Joyce gave us another good Hodgepodge!

As my own eyesight begins to fail, more and more, I realize how blessed I used to be when I didn't need those pesky glasses! Oh well, at least I can still see, even if I do need glasses to be able to do it :)
I'm sure someone will be delighted to get that bike trailer!!!

I'm getting the men shopping thing. My dad tends to get the wrong thing or wrong brand, drives us all nuts! I can't believe "seriously" wasn't on the list. I use that a lot too!

Love your verse selection. That was a hard question for me. But so far, everyone has chosen a scripture passage.

That was an awesome thing to give away. I like your mantra. You don't need to be embarrassed watching Dick Van Dyke, great show! Love your random.

I run into the same problem when my husband goes to the store with me! We always end up with a lot more than we need...and a much higher bill! :)
