The length of our recent vacation was 14 days. About halfway through, I was ready to come home and told myself (
On the other hand, the trip seemed too short-lived. When you do a vacation tour with a guide, a group of people and a specific itinerary, you don't really, really get the chance to thoroughly and completely soak in the sights. It is so brief. "Get off the bus, folks, take a pic, look around for a few minutes, check out the gift shop, and then we're moving on." They really don't quite put it that way, but still ...
There were a few days that extra time was allotted to us. We had a little more freedom when we got off the bus to walk around (away from the guide and the others), stay for a little while, take in the sunshine ... (perfect weather every day) and the views ... (breathtaking.)
We saw a lot of sights along the way, and heard the history, which was both informative and interesting.
But when I'm riding along and see a beautiful forest,
I want to stop and walk through it.
I want to stop and walk through it.
The sight of a clear lake brings a desire to sit beside it,
maybe skip rocks,
maybe skip rocks,
take a swim, or row a boat.
The mountains beg to be climbed
(by someone other than me.)
(
I need to wade in the creek as we did when we were kids ...
take time to explore a path
(if I had more than a few minutes).
(
Maybe even hug a tree?
I've done whitewater canoeing and rafting.
Wonder what it would be like to go freely over a waterfall
without danger and then float on down the river?
My thinking during those moments was
heaven will be a place
where we can do all those things,
and so much more than we can imagine
unhindered by time constraints, location, or physical limitations (age).
It's just fun to think about all the endless possibilities.
He has planted eternity in the human heart.
(Ecclesiastes 3:11)

You never said where you were on this vacation. It looks beautiful. I just KNOW my Dad is in heaven sitting lakeside and fishing to his heart's content. BEAUTIFUL photos!!
I'm sorry. I guess I wrongly assumed that anyone who read this would remember (LOL) my earlier post about our vacation. We traveled by train from Chicago to Salt Lake City, then a bus tour up through Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons, and Glacier Park, then from there back to Chicago. Gorgeous scenery.
Maybe my Dad is sitting beside him. :-)
I know what you mean - you love to go on trips and you love to come home.
The pictures are beautiful and it looks very peaceful where you went.
Your husband loves to travel I take it.

Well, it sounds like you had a wonderful trip even if you didn't have as much private time to enjoy things as you have liked. What gorgeous things you saw there. I am glad you are home safe and sound-xo Diana
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I could feel my feet in that cool water, although I don't want to go over that waterfall here on earth. Heaven will be as lovely as you say, and I love that verse from Ecclesiastes!
I've seen those places a few times and I always feel so blessed to live in a country that has such great variety and beauty. Glad you had a nice trip, but I'm with you in wanting to really take more time to get to know and enjoy the area. Thanks for sharing!
I don't think I've ever been gone on vacation for that long. However, just look at all the amazing sights you got to take it...WOW! You traveled to the places I've been dying to go, as I'm a huge nature buff. One day soon...I hope!
I love these photos! I would've been scrambling up the hillside to see what was on the other side.
Thanks for sharing!
Such beautiful photos and with an awesome thought at the end. We just began a new series at church studying the book of Ecclesiastes.
The picture of the placid lake is stunning ! I love how vivid the colors are :)
Just stumbled across your blog. You have a lovely space here :)
I white water rafted on the Colorado River when I was a kid and loved it!
