On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Here are my answers to this week's indulging in the Hodgepodge from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. You can answer the questions on your own blog then link with Joyce and the others to read everybody else's answers.

1. When did you last sing happy birthday to someone? When were you last sung to? Does that embarrass you or do you enjoy being the center of attention on your special day?

We sang happy birthday to our granddaughter in August. Our grandkids sang happy birthday to me back in May for my birthday. I have friends who call me on my birthday and sing. Although I don’t like being the center of attention, I do love for the grandkids to sing to me.

2.  Name a famous or 'infamous' person (living or deceased) who shares your birth day and month. Is that someone you'd like to meet in person if it were possible?

I see that Bob Seger was born on my birthday. Although I don’t need to meet him, I think it might be fun to have him sing to me. Roma Downey also shares my birthday. I think I would like to meet her and discuss her shows - the Bible and Touched by An Angel. It would be interesting to hear how the decisions are made in writing the scripts and producing these shows and her thoughts on taking liberties with the Bible.

3. Someone hands you a box tied up in a lovely bow...what are you hoping to find inside?

Growing up it was always my hope to find a pair of roller rink skates in any box that was big enough to hold them. These days I’m thankful that there are people who care enough about me to give me a box tied up in a lovely bow. Gift cards to the book store are always welcome.

4. What can you guarantee about yourself?
I will be there early or on time.

5. Talking art and beautiful cities here...'The Last Supper' in the Santa Maria della Grazie Abbey in Milan Italy or 'The Mona Lisa' in The Louvre, Paris...which would you most like to see up close and in person?  Why?

Would choose to see The Mona List in The Louvre since I missed it when we were there. It’s just pleasant to look at. (But it's probably not going to happen since I have no desire to return to either place.)

6. Your favorite dessert?

Choose one??????? Coconut cream pie with whipped cream - no meringue (we call it "calf slobber").
Chocolate pie, brownies with ice cream and hot fudge, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, or bread pudding.

7. This coming weekend marks the official start of autumn (in the Northern hemisphere)...what is something you do to get ready for fall? What is one thing you're looking forward to on your fall calendar? Spring or fall-which do you prefer?

I have a tablecloth and a garland of leaves for decoration. I just don't do decorating, except at Christmas.
Though I love Spring and all the beauty of it, there is something about Fall that just feels so cozy and warm. It’s a break from the horrible heat where we live, a crispness in the air-I feel energized-there’s the hope of rain or maybe even snow.  It’s football season for the guys and that means Sunday afternoons of listening to the excitement in the living room in front of the TV while I take a nap or read a book. Time to invite friends over for chili, soup, beans and cornbread, etc. The colors are gorgeous and there is the anticipation of Thanksgiving and Christmas. So much excitement! Also, I was married in October and remember everything about the joy of that day. I could go on and on.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

My random thought today is the sadness of the tragedies that are happening in this nation. I think everyone else feels this way, too. I pray that God will have mercy on us.
On a lighter note, when the questions ask for my favorite something, wish I could really narrow it down to just one thing. :-)

Thank you, Joyce.
And a very happy, happy birthday to you.

I am obsessively punctual, myself. In 29 years of teaching, I was never late, not once. I love that trait in other people, too.

And autumn is my very favorite time of the year, even though we won't get much cooler weather till about November. I would love it to be fall all year long!

Funny story about Bob Seger...when my hubby was young, long before I met him, he drove a limo. He was driving Bob Seger one night who wanted to go to a local club. Just as my hubby and Seger entered the door, two women were fighting and one threw a drink and it hit Seger's coat!!! He said, "I like this place!" He even asked the local band could he play with them!
I, too, am very punctual.
And, you are the first person besides my grandpa who calls it "calf slobber!" Have not heard that in years!

Thank you for the birthday wishes : ) I can rarely name 'just one thing' either.

Another on time person! I try to be. I love Rod Segar's music. Night train... And I also like Roma Downey - she just played Mary on the latest Christian show.

I hate the sadness and tragedy's going on too.

Yay for another coconut cream pie fan! I'm telling you, my mom's was TO-DIE-FOR! Whenever we had family reunions, she always brought several and people nearly fought for a slice...or 2 or 3!

I am always, always early. My hubby is always, always late. I now lie to him by at least a half hour when I want him to be somewhere on time. Do you think God will look on that unkindly being as hubby is a pastor and all?;>) xo Diana

I hate to be late so I like to arrive early or on time.

I am a lot like you, Nonnie, in that I have a reputation for always being early! I share your feeling about the tragedies in our nation. A pastor here recently spent the whole sermon reading verses from the Bible about God's mercy. We pray for mercy and for an awakening to God's ways.

I love fall too, as you said probably the break from the oppressive heat that we experience! Fall also brings back some happy childhood memories too. We played in the cotton that Daddy had just picked! It was so fun!

My goodness, brownies do seem to be a common answer for dessert. I'm seriously craving brownies now! lol
