On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

A Hurried Hodgepodge

And now, it is the first day of March and that falls on Wednesday and that means Hodgepodge with Joyce.

It isn't original, but time is marching on and March is here already! On my way home the other day, my eyes caught sight of an entire front yard covered with daffodils! I should have turned around and gone back to take a picture, but, as usual, I was in a hurry to get home!

1. 'Slow and steady wins the race'...tell us about a time this was true in your own life.

This was true when I was in Seattle with my brother for his bone marrow transplant thirty years ago. It was a very anxious and scary time for all of us. When the transplant had been completed, and we waited for blood counts, it seemed that other patients' blood counts were soaring and my brother's were agonizingly slow. But slow and steady won the race for him (and us as we celebrated his recovery). Others who had seen their blood counts rise rapidly experienced devastating ups and downs, but my brother's slow and steady rise got him going. So thankful his slow and steady progress has resulted in his still being here with us.

2. 'As slow as molasses'...Do you like molasses? How about maple syrup? Caramel? Butterscotch? What's your favorite of the slow moving treats mentioned here, and what's your favorite food made with that sweet treat?

Molasses is all right in a molasses cookie, but for me, that's it. I do remember well my Dad loved sorghum molasses on biscuits. I prefer good maple syrup on a pancake or waffle. A friend recently gave me a recipe for gluten free chocolate chip cookies and maple syrup is an ingredient. These are goooooood cookies.

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies from Honeyville Brand Almond Flour

2 ½ c. almond flour
½ t. salt
½ t. baking soda
½ c. coconut oil, melted
½ c. pure maple syrup
1 c. dark chocolate chips

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
Stir together wet ingredients then add to the dry ones.
Drop in 1 Tbsp servings onto a parchment paper covered cookie sheet.
Bake @ 350 for 7-10 mins.
Cool on wire rack.

3. Your favorite slow song?

Lost in the Fifties by Ronnie Millsap.

4. Your favorite thing to make in a slow cooker or crock pot?

Pot roast or brisket.

5. 'You may delay, but time will not.' ~Benjamin Franklin Are you more a hurrier or a delayer when it comes to unpleasant tasks that need doing? What are you currently either delaying or hurrying to get through this week or month?

I want to get it done and put it behind me! Usually we already have our taxes done by this time and ready to go, but this year, we are using a CPA, and we can't meet with them until next week.

I. Just. Want. It. Done.

More importantly than that, we are awaiting a special stent to be built for my husband's surgery and I definitely am wanting that one to hurry and let's get it done. But that one is so important to me, I am trusting God's timing.  (He knows that if it were possible, I would fly over to Australia and bug the ones who are specially crafting that stent.)

This little chubs was a hurrier last summer, saving his Mommy from the unpleasant task of prolonged labor! He made his entrance while on the way to the hospital in the front seat of Grandma's SUV. Brand new SUV!

6. Tell us three things you encounter regularly or even just occasionally that you find to be annoyingly slow.

  • Waiting on people to move when light turns green.
  • Microwave (hehe).
  • Kids to get their shoes on so we can leave.

7. March is National Craft Month. Are you crafty? Tell us about something crafty you'll try in the next thirty one days. Or something crafty you'd like to try or wish you had the skill to make happen.

Not crafty. I wish I were more of a decorator, but I'm not. I would like to be able to sew or crochet.

My random today?

It may sound as though I'm an impatient person, but really I'm quite patient.

  • I rarely honk at people who don't move as quickly as I think they should. Usually you can count on someone behind you to take care of that.
  • I find other things to do while the microwave does that 25 seconds!
  • And really, I have been known to wait an extraordinarily long time for kids to get those shoes on.

I enjoyed listening to the song while reading your post. That was a classic. Oh my, that precious, chubby baby. What a doll! So glad your brother is still doing well. And, that you are a very patient person does not surprise me. Praying about that special stent for your husband. Keep us posted.

Your grandbaby has a great birth story : ) I do hope the stent is ready soon. I'm sure it's hard not to feel impatient in the waiting. I really hope Life SPR is reading your answers today. His wife just had a stem cell transplant and her recovery is going more slowly than they hoped. Your post might encourage him. Have a great day!

First, Little Chubs is just adorable. Also, I am happy that your brother had a successful Stem Cell Transplant. SWMBO seems to have turned a corner. Her numbers are trending upward, she is feeling better and with luck and God's grace she could come home on Monday. Thanks for your prayers and encouraging words and for stopping by my blog page. Until next time...
