On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

A Nostalgic Hodgepodge

Happy to be welcoming Joyce back and joining her for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. ASAP typically stands for 'as soon as possible'. What else could it stand for in your life right now?

In my life right now, it has to be:

"Am Standing and Praying."
Standing on God's promises - praying for His will.

2. Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea? Why do you suppose that is? Is it a good thing or no?

It depends upon the topic. If it's something I am familiar with, I will speak up. If not, I listen to get an understanding and what others have to say, then I can see whether I have any input or not.

3. What do you remember best about being 12?

I remember my 12th birthday. My Mom thought it would be fun to have a "tacky party." Everyone came dressed in their tackiest. I'm hard pressed though to remember what we did to have fun that day, but I know that we did. LOL!  Sunday School parties, outdoor fun around the neighborhood playing softball, sleepovers with friends and roller skating at the Holiday Roller Rink on Saturdays. At 12, I was also looking forward to wearing my new pink dress Mom made for me to wear to the 6th grade banquet, and wearing a bra that actually had a cup size! I also remember looking forward to going into junior high and being on the drill team (said dream was blown a couple of months later when we moved across town and I had to switch schools. That was a memorable and upsetting event.)

4. January 18th is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Which character do you relate to the most, and why? If you're stumped go here for inspiration.

The quiz says I'm Winnie. I have been told that I am easy to get along with and friendly and I do like honey!

5. What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way?

Find iPhone is one of the very best ways I have found to help me be sure about whether my DH made it to his destination or where he can be found if he is unsure of where he is. Thanks be to God for this app.

6. San Francisco (CA), San Diego (CA), San Juan (PR) San Antonio (TX) Sanibel (FL)...you have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations. Which one do you choose and why?

I have heard so many good things about San Diego that I would love to visit there someday. Wondering now why we never have. Having lived in San Antonio for three years I can recommend it as a wonderful destination.

7. Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic? For what?

Many, many songs bring back memories. I can tell you what the weather was like, who I was with, etc., etc., as I am sure you can as well. But just a few: Silver Wings by Merle Haggard, and I am dancing with DH again that first night we met. Makes me wish time hadn't passed so quickly.

"Kiss me each morning for a million years
Hold me each evening by your side
Tell me you love me for a million years
Then if it don't work out
Then if it don't work out
Then you can tell me goodbye."

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Neil Sedaka has me rolling happily around the roller rink on Saturday and wishing now I could put on a pair of skates and go for it!

Good morning! I enjoyed reading your answers to the Hodge Podge questions today. You have a GREAT memory! I can't remember when I was 12. :) I can tell you about when I was 4 or 5 or 6...but not 12. :) Have a great Wednesday!

I would love to visit San Antonio one day...it's on my list of "must-see" places. I loved going roller skating when I was a kid. Such fun!

I kept thinking of comments so now I've gotta number them to keep up...LOL:
1) Love your ASAP - I've been praying desperately about a certain situation, too
2) I feel the same way about speaking up....I do it in SS sometimes if God puts something on my heart to say
3) Oh, this brought back memories of my Mom taking me bra shopping...I can remember to that to this day
4) It says I'm a "Tigger" but the description is nothing like me....I figured I'd get Eyore. ;)
5) I have an Android phone, but I love the Notes app...it really helps when grocery shopping
6) I think I might have to let the person paying pick because I'm clueless when it comes to traveling
7) The old hymn Whispering Hope comes to mind...the memories are about my precious Daddy
8) Random Thought....This was FUN!!!
Thanks for letting me play along....HOPE you have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Great answers, Connie. I can so relate to some of your answers here. When I got my first bra I was 12 (my brother was 8) and somehow he heard the word "cups"...and that is what he called me for the next year...Cups! lol

Hope you have a great Wednesday and you know I am praying for you. xo Diana

Great answers. I remember having a fun time roller skating and listening to the music--I miss those days!

I am in San Diego sooo often I can assure you it is a WONDERFUL place to visit. And some of my favorite people live there too, lol. I think the holiday threw me off and I missed the Hodgepodge. But I think I may be the only one (according to the ones I have read so far anyway) that didn't have such pleasant memories of being 12 years old. It was such an awkward time for me. But I do remember LOVING the roller skating rink. Have a good day!

I agree San Antonio is a great getaway destination, but I also said I'd like to visit San Diego...I need a beach day! Have a good week.
Cheers!

I think a lot of people liked to roller skate when they were younger. I was not one of them. If you have ever seen Goofy roller skating, you have a good idea of what I looked like.

Our local roller rink was so much fun. Too bad they don't have many of them left. Sweet memory of when you met your husband :)

I enjoyed your post today. I had forgotten about tacky parties. Those were lots of fun.

I loved to roller skate too (and ice skate)! So many songs bring back so many memories. This was a fun Hodgepodge and I sure enjoyed reading your answers!

I always enjoyed roller skating, too! It was so freeing (for lack of a better word). It was the next best thing to being able to fly. I loved it and was at the rink every Saturday morning as a child.

I am thankful that you have that app for finding your phone, too. How upsetting to think of your husband out there and not knowing where he is. That is a concern for me, too, especially since a couple of times now I've been out and suddenly was unsure of where I was at. I remembered where I needed to be, but was unsure where I was, so was unsure which way to turn. It was very upsetting. We have that app, too, but thankfully, David and I are almost always together. He is good at getting me un-lost. I pray that your husband and you, too, will be okay and safe.

A tacky party sounds interesting. I don't think that I've ever heard of those.

Have a blessed evening!

Those are fun, happy memories. And I think it is great that you remember the fun of your 12th birthday even if you don't remember the specifics. Some things are bigger than the particulars.

I love your answers. And also memories (12e birthday)

Goodness, I haven't thought about tacky parties in ages. You do have a good memory of specifics in your past which envy. I can recall mental images of experiences but they are more like snap shots. Loved your ASAP answer.

I'm gonna play!
1. Always Singing and Praising
2. I'm usually pretty vocal, seems I always have an opinion...I don't know if that's good or bad!
3. I don't remember much about being 12..hmmm...wish I did.
4. Rabbit..not completely accurate, but close!
5. I love google on my phone.
6. I think I would enjoy San Francisco.
7. The Hustle..my girls danced to that song when they were in little league drill team. So many years ago, everytime I hear this song it takes me back to such wonderful years.
8. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
This was fun!!
