On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Wet and Wild Throwback Thursday

It's so hot out these days. The temperatures are now reaching 3 digits so our way to stay cool is to stay inside as much as possible!! Truth is, sometimes it's so cool inside I step out on the back patio to get warm. It doesn't take but a minute or two before you're ready to go back inside.

For the kids, staying cool back in the early 90's was pretty simple. Before building a swimming pool, we spent a good deal of time in our front yard. Our neighbors were usually outside and we would visit back and forth across the street. We relaxed in the evenings on our glider on the front porch to watch the kids play or neighbors as they passed by for an evening stroll. The pics below were taken when my brother and his family came to visit.

Jason could rock the slip 'n slide.

Chase throwing a football.
He played varsity football in high school and
college.

The little guy in front was a neighbor, Nicholas.

(Notice the little trees to the left of the kids. DH was always trying to figure out the best way to keep the western sun off the house so the kitchen would be cooler. He put up all the trellises on the side of the house and planted passionflower vines - at one time the wall was covered with those beautiful flowers. He also planted the skinny little red oak trees alongside the house the plan being they would shade the house.)

We all had a lot more hair in those days.

The years brought a lot of changes. Those little boys grew up to be really big boys! Both great men!

Chase at 6'5"

 Jason at 6'7".

Those skinny little red oak trees grew up too as you can see from this photo I took on a recent trip to our old neighborhood.

Wow! Oh yes,
I think the trees provided a little shade!

This is a blurred pic of another one of DH's ideas. He mowed our yard like this for years and saved a lot of energy - his energy, that is - by hooking the lawnmower up to go in circles and mow. All he had to do was mow the corners and edge.

Ahhhh! Just looking at this gives me shivers!

  2. I like your mowing deal. It sounds like it saves a lot of time. Personally, I love your last photo! Personally, I like things sort of between now and your photo! Have a great day.
