On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Throwback Thursday

Someone posted styles on Facebook from the 70's for men showing how goofy they dressed in that decade. I remember the 70's and it wasn't pretty for me either!!!

Remember the shag haircut?
Me with my mini-dachshunds, Liesl and Max

This is a collage of my parents, and my siblings with their spouses. Phil on the left bottom with Susan, and Roberta on the right with Don. The pics of my brother and sister were taken at dinner at my parents' home on one of my visits there. We always got together for Sunday dinner when I made it back home. It was such a treat. Life in Texas was good, but how I longed to be able to live in the same town with and see my family more often.

In the pics above of Mom and Dad, my husband and I had taken them on a road trip from Texas up through Colorado and back. It pleased me that they had such a wonderful time. My parents never really took vacations. Throughout our childhood, there wasn't money for extravagant vacations, but every year we did go to Arkansas to visit the families of each of them and take day trips over to places such as Branson, Missouri back when it was mostly about Silver Dollar City and Marble Cave. Roaring River and Eureka Springs were also day trips we never tired of. When I was 14, they splurged and took us to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, and I remember staying in the Jolly Roger motel. It was a good trip! (Somehow, as I type this, I'm thinking maybe I have mentioned this in a recent blog. oops!) Oh well, it's mostly about the fact that I was glad we were able to take my parents on a couple of vacations and how much they enjoyed seeing the beauty of Colorado and the sights there, such as Royal Gorge, Estes Park, and Cripple Creek. Amarillo and West Texas ... not so much!!

The pics above were taken on a camping trip. Notice the clothes hanging on the line behind them. It was an amazing thing to get these two away for a trip to Lake Ouachita in Arkansas for tent-camping, of all things. They were good sports about sleeping on air mattresses in a tent. We took the boat out every day to the islands and hiked around. We had such a wonderful time and I so admired my Mom's heart and great attitude about joy in the pain. Although she was in remission from her cancer at this time, her body wasn't totally feeling it's old self. But as the rain poured down on us one day, I remember her standing outside in it exclaiming that she didn't care, she was going to enjoy every minute of it!!

Here is a 70's pic of my brother and sister and I

Here we are a couple of years ago.
(I felt the need to post this one to show we aren't as shy
of getting close to each other these days!!!!)

Mom and Dad would have been so proud to see their beautiful grandchildren! The last time they saw these kids, they were just little squirts!

So, despite the awful clothes, hairstyles, and music, my memories of the 70's are not too bad. There was a lot of growing up to be done in those years for me. Many good things came from those years. I'm thankful now to be looking back at them and not living them!
