On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Red White and Blue Hodgepodge

1. The Hodgepodge lands on June 14th this week, Flag Day in the US of A. Do you fly your country's flag at home? Yes.
Sometimes, often, or every single day?
On occasions such as Flag day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Veterans Day, etc.

Have you ever visited the city of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia)? No
Did you make a point of seeing The Betsy Ross House? N/A
Have you ever made a trip to Baltimore? No.
If so, was Fort McHenry on your itinerary? (where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner) N/A

2. Red flag or white flag? Which have you encountered most recently?
White flag.
Explain.
Giving up my desire for now to downsize and move. It just isn't the right time. I'm trusting that I will know when the right time comes for us.

3. Are you a stay in the car listen to the end of a song kind of person? Yes.
What kind of person is that?

A sentimental someone or somebody who just really is enjoying the moment. Maybe the words are encouraging ... maybe the song brings back memories ... maybe just enjoying a feel good moment. Amazing how a song can instantly take you back to people, events, stages of life and stir up the emotions from that moment in time into the present.

4. What are some of the traits or qualities you think a good dad possesses? In other words, what makes a good dad?

Gentle love that invites trust, setting a good example, being faithful, committed, patient, having a good sense of humor, not afraid to correct and teach with love.

What's an expression you associate with your father?

"It's too far and snaky."
This had something to do with something he didn't want to do or place he didn't want to go. I know he said many other things, but that one was funny to me the way he said it. I think this is a southern kind of expression and he grew up in the hills of Northwest Arkansas.

5. What's one rule you always disagreed with while growing up? Is that rule somehow still part of your adult life? Is that a good or bad thing?

"Clean your plate." It is a part of my life now because I somehow can't bear to waste anything and therefore, it has greatly affected my "waistline!" That's not good.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

The expensive to-dos around here are getting me down and wondering when will it end. I'm thankful right now we have the funds to cover, but I was trying to plan a nice vacation and I am now thinking that may not happen. The good thing is we have several upcoming events to look forward to, so I will be content with those.

Nonnie, We fly our flag everyday....except on the days where I become Betsy Ross myself and sew on the flag, because it gets ripped so easily in the winds here. LOL. I wish the makers of the flags would use better threads and technics when sewing them. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

The cost of "fix it" items can be very overwhelming. We have a list over here too. That's why hubby is doing the floors himself. They actually wanted 1400.00 dollars to do what he is doing....but when I see the time and work involved now I am not surprised, lol. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Enjoyed your hodgepodge...sure hope things work out where you can have a vacation. "Fix it" is sometimes not good on the pocketbook.

I am in a mood today where any clutter is bothering me. I already rearranged four kitchen cabinets and the kids and my husband are staying out of my path ;) I feel the need to simplify and not have so much stuff. I always wanted a big house but if you ask me today I would say no- LOL. Hope your plans for a vacation can still work out. Have a great week :)

I understand your random thought. We bought a house in a nearby town and decided to do a little remodeling. That little remodel has turned into a huge remodel. Thankfully we have the money to do it, but like you, our vacation this year won't be the one I had been hoping for.

Hello Nonnie, I enjoyed reading your answers today. To dos can get the budget out of whack for sure. Hope you have some fun adventures anyway.

Ha Ha... The clean your plate club :) I love that!
We've been there and done that with the expensive "to do" list. It never seems to end. These days, on our fixed incomes, we're content with our "day trips" and "staycations". We really like our beds at home anyway :)

Yep I grew up as a member of that club too.

Had to laugh at the Clean Your Plate Club graphic. Oh my gosh, that was a common saying in our home too growing up. Had there been a framed picture of that image, my parents would have posted it. Sorry to hear about the financial challenges you're experiencing. Hope the to-do list goes down and you are able to take a vacation. :)

Even in our new home, so of those "to-do" items have been quite pricey, and we are still looking at a new HVAC unit before the summer is out. The inspector told us it would limp along for a few more months. Holding our breath because it will be a really big one. Sigh. You aren't alone.

Lots of to-dos here also. If we ever were to try and sell this house, we would have to do a LOT more, but there are some improvements we need to do anyway just for safety and comfort. My hubby is a talented handyman and we can save a lot of money that way, but he has so little time.

Sorry about you giving up on your plan to downsize. I trust that God has a plan for you. Yep, had to clean my plate too! Hope those upcoming events are wonderful.
