On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Sweet Times and Hanging On

We have been trying to get our 2 year old grandson out of the pak 'n play in our room, and into the "real bed" in another bedroom. Because he sleeps in a big boy bed in his own room at home, we thought the transition here would be as easy as pie. (Where did that saying originate? Pie is not easy for me.)

It hasn't happened quite that way at our house. He won't stay in the bed, and had chosen instead to continue sleeping in the pak n play. That is, until a couple of weeks ago when he insisted on sleeping with us. We gave in fairly quickly because we were so tired (exhausted).

Who could resist this little guy?

So into our bed he crawled and made himself comfortable against me. He put his little arm around me and squeezed my arm. He wouldn't let go. This has now become our pattern.

After he falls asleep, his clinging presents a problem for me to get out of his grip without waking him up. You see, my instructions from his sister, Kate, as I tuck her in are always: "as soon as Grandpa starts to snore, you come and sleep with me." Haha! It isn't much longer before Grandpa does exactly that, so I then grope my way in the dark over to her room.

Very early in the morning, I sneak quietly out of Kate's room, tiptoe downstairs for coffee and make my way into my favorite chair by the window for quiet time. About half an hour later,  this sweet angel of a girl comes to me rubbing sleepy eyes and asking me to come back to bed. "Nonnie, when you finish reading your Bible, come be with me and snuggle."

I lie down with her and she wants my right arm under her head and my left arm around her. Her sweet little hand touches my face lightly with her fingers, then she runs those fingers gently down my arm and squeezes my hand, and then repeats the process. She wiggles a little and cuddles closer. We talk for a while in whispers. What a sweet time it is. And then, after a bit, we decide it's time to go check on Grandpa and Jack.

My thoughts as I lay there with her run to the relationship between my Father and me and how I want to be closer to Him.

I want to see You
I want to touch Your face
I want to hear Your voice
I want to know You, Lord

Oh how I would love that kind of time with my grands! I've had it in little spurts, but since they live so far away it's been too little!!!

So sweet! It's fun to have those special moments with the Grandkiddos but I'm always so exhausted and then I realize why we had our kids when we were young!
