On Eagle's Wings

On Eagle's Wings
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

I Get By with a Little Help from my Friends

Lots of things going on in the last couple of weeks, so I haven't really kept up in the blog world except for some snippets of time to enjoy reading everyone else's blogs.

Just before our friends, Alice and Fred, left for home, we decided to take a little trip down to Lake Whitney to check out a lake house I had rented for a family outing in September. That was a very wise decision as the place was a HUGE disappointment and for that reason alone, the trip would have been worthwhile. (Beware of pics on the Internet and that things are not always as they appear.)

But we did enjoy our little outing and the place we stayed (Lake Whitney White Bluff Resort) was very nice. Here are a few pics from the trip.

Our first stop was the Cracker Barrel just south of Dallas. Fred loves the Cracker Barrel, but Alice and I wanted to look around the country store.

Of course, we all had to have our pictures made in the rocking chairs. (And lucky for us, since the pics taken at Cracker Barrel were too dark, we had a second chance at the rockers at the resort!)

No, for some reason, Fred and DH didn't want their pic together in the chairs. LOL!
I guess that was a little "sissified" for them.

The lake was beautiful, although the lake level is way down, as are most of the lakes around here.

 Deer were everywhere.

The Resort's version of the Lone Star Flag

A beautiful and refreshing pool at the resort,
which we enjoyed that evening.
We had it all to ourselves!

At the end of the day

The next morning, we decided to make our way over to Lake Granbury to check out a few possibilities and on the way made a stop in Glen Rose to see the Creation Museum there. Below is a picture of a painting of Noah's Ark. (as if you couldn't have figured that out by yourself.)

There is also a good sized replica of Noah's Ark and what the inside could have been like.
That was very interesting to look at and think about,
especially the way the water could have been stored and
piped down through the rest of the boat to water all the animals.

You can see the little buckets on the pulleys.

You can see what looks like water troughs and that
they flowed down to the other parts of the ark.

The City of Granbury was fun and we enjoyed looking around the town, checking out as many shops as we could, making a few small purchases, and having lunch at Linda's Southern Kitchen. Delicious chicken salad, chicken fried steak, burgers, fries, and really good homemade chocolate pie and coconut cream pie - my two favorites!

Pretty red barn
(On our way out I saw this barn and thought of you, Sandie. Of course, DH was driving a little fast, but you get the idea.)

Alas, all good things must come to an end. And they did. And we said good-bye. Such a lonely and melancholy feeling when you have been with people you love and gotten into a little routine, and then it's over. It was a comfortable, calming time while they were here.

Calm is good. Most of our time was spent over meals - Alice and I cooked, or we went out, or met with mutual friends. And always came back home to visit and ... watch Downton Abbey. They had only seen the final episode!!!!! What??? They wanted to see the entire series and so they did, since Nonnie has DVR'd the entire three seasons. When that was done - what next? No problem. We had a couple of other BBC series recorded to watch. So we spent some happy times laughing together (and at each other as we passed the tissues) while we watched our shows. Is that sappy or what? :-)

  1. Ahhh, Downton Abbey with good friends- what a great time that in itself is! We've eaten at that same Cracker Barrel just south of Dallas, and we've also been to Glen Rose and seen the great museum there.

So glad you had such a fabulous time with your friends- and it gives you something to look forward to for when they return!

  4. I am so late in reading blogs! I see the lovely blurred barn - you are taking them like I did. Pretty barn for going that fast. I love when they are up-kept so nice. So sad when they are let go.
The resort looked wonderful. I loved seeing you and your husband - you are beautiful in red. Awesome.
    Love, sandie

  6. 3 Studies REVEAL How Coconut Oil Kills Belly Fat.

This means that you actually kill fat by eating coconut fats (in addition to coconut milk, coconut cream and coconut oil).

These 3 researches from big medicinal journals are sure to turn the conventional nutrition world upside down!
