Are you familiar with this term?
Road Apples
(horse manure)
It has been my intent lately to make a more concerted effort to be careful about any negative comments - or thoughts … about anything …or anybody.
Sometimes it is my tendency to over-analyze conversations and the words I speak. The proverb about words and apples of gold came to mind, so I Googled the phrase. (Somehow my search produced an image of road apples!) I never heard of road apples before, but as I thought about it ...
Do you ever just wish you could have a redo on something you said?
Road apples are unattractive and smelly.
Those aren't the kind of words I want to leave behind
to be cleaned up later.
I want my words to be lovely and sweet.
Apples of gold glow.
is as beautiful as gold apples in a silver bowl.
Proverbs 25:11 NCV
Ahh, so true! Very timely, too~
ReplyDeleteI guess everyday is a good day for that, huh?
DeleteAmen! We ALL need to work on that one!!! I am trying not to be fearful when I look at all that I need to do and wonder HOW in the world I am going to get it done!!! I am totally out of my comfort zone in hauling this camper down to Houston - but God can make a way when there seems to be no way. I need to confess my FAITH and keep mum on my fears!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post this morning.......gets us strated off right this Monday!
One of my favorite songs - God will make a way, when there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me.
DeleteThanks for that reminder - will hum along with you today! ;-)
That Proverbs verse is one of my favorite. I have a thing about words and how I should "say what I mean, and mean what I say" and from there you can't improve on silence. Weird aren't I.
ReplyDeleteNo. And that probably explains why our conversations are so enjoyed.
DeleteGreat post!! A reminder that we all need!
ReplyDeleteLove the song you mentioned above, great song to be in my head today!!!
Keep on singing. :-)
DeleteRoad apples...now that is funny...because we live in Amish country we see lots and lots of road apples! (and parking lot apples) There is so much negativity on the TV now with political messages that they need to read this post too!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I guess so. I have to carry around a sack with me to pick up the "tootsie rolls" my dog leaves. I just can't bear the political stuff. It's so bad.
DeleteRoad apples is a good term for negative thoughts - they're distracting, unpleasant and get us on the wrong foot, literally and figuratively. Now and then, though, I believe it's important to express a negative thought; one that encapsulates a wrong that you see in the world, perhaps, or a feeling you have that needs to be aired in order to release it. The question is, how will express it? There's a big difference between laying a road apple down in front of someone and throwing it at them. :)
ReplyDeleteSmiling ... You are so right.
DeleteGood thoughts and post...as they say it takes less facial muscles to smile than to frown and goodness knows we don't need those extra wrinkles either.

There are those times that I would love a "do over" for things I have said. TOTALLY!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Nonnie. It's a good visual to have in mind in determining what to speak. Sometimes in our house we do use do overs.
